John Paul II School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Special Education/Resource Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse learners, particularly those with special needs, and possess a strong commitment to providing personalized support and instruction to help students reach their full potential. Responsibilities:

  1. Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, in collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and other support staff.
  2. Provide direct instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions.
  3. Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the unique needs and learning styles of students with disabilities.
  4. Collaborate with general education teachers to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum as needed to ensure accessibility and promote student success.
  5. Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and data collection, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and behavior in compliance with school and district policies.
  7. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and solicit feedback.
  8. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and other collaborative planning sessions as needed.
  9. Collaborate with school psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to support the comprehensive needs of students with disabilities.
  10. Stay current with best practices, research, and developments in the field of special education, and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  2. Valid teaching license/certification in Special Education (or eligible for licensure/certification).
  3. Previous experience working with middle school students with diverse learning needs, including those with learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and other special needs.
  4. Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and support staff.
  6. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.
  7. Ability to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  8. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  9. Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development in the field of special education.
