The TBLSEC (Tonganoxie Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative) is accepting applications for various anticipated school psychologist openings in the cooperative for the 2022-2023 school year. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold- or be eligible for- a school psychologist license issued by the Kansas State Department

of Education.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s) and Director of Special Education

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Conduct formal and informal assessments to determine a child`s cognitive abilities- learning styles- academic achievement level- emotional development and social skills in an effort to assign appropriate educational services to individual students.

 

2. Oversee the process for the identification- evaluation- and placement of students into special education.

 

3. Coordinate and facilitate eligibility team meetings. This responsibility may involve scheduling the meetings with the teachers- specialists and parents- facilitating the communication at the meetings- completing the mandated procedures and submitting all required paperwork.

 

4. Organize and facilitate special education team meetings at the building level.

 

5. Serve as the special education team leader in assigned buildings.

 

6. Assist teachers and parents in developing an appropriate Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students.

 

7. Assist in providing direction for and ensure compliance with the Kansas State Board of Education guidelines for Special Education as it relates to students.

 

8. Serve as the Local Education Agency (LEA) Representative when the building principal is unavailable or the situation warrants.

 

9. Participate in child find activities (Early childhood screening- student support teams- etc.)

 

10. Collaborate/consult with individual teachers regarding learning or behavioral concerns about students.

 

11. Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum- instructional- and environmental modifications/accommodations based on identified student needs.

 

12. Provide direct individual and group counseling services to students who are experiencing academic- social- emotional or behavioral adjustment problems.

 

13. Provide appropriate information for students and families regarding community agencies and services available to them.

 

14. Provide appropriate direction- supervision and evaluate feedback to any assigned paraprofessional.

 

15. Support educational improvement through legislative knowledge and involvement in building and district activities.

 

16. Maintain an inventory of materials- tests and supplies.

 

17. Maintain confidentiality of student information and school issues.

 

18. Keep informed of best practices and new developments related to academic- behavior- and social learning of students and share the information with appropriate staff.

 

19. Collect and analyze data related to school improvement- student outcomes- and accountability requirements.

 

20. Demonstrate effective communication with parents- students- and staff both verbally and in writing.

 

21. Present and disseminate information to appropriate audiences.

 

22. Participate as a crisis team member and provides crisis intervention for students and staff.

 

23. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.

 

24. Assist in the supervision of students by remaining vigilant of students throughout the school day and the school locations- taking the initiative to engage students when they are acting inappropriately or in inappropriate locations.

 

25. Attend all required district professional development activities.

 

26. Attend building faculty meetings.

 

27. Obtain prior approval for all special activities and expenditures.

 

28. Comply with all district policies- rules and regulations.

 

29. Support the value of education- as well as the mission and philosophy of the district in which you work.

 

30. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent- Special Education Director- and/or Building Principal- which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
