USD 439, Sedgwick Public Schools is accepting applications for a 7-12 science teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.  An emphasis on biological science is preferred but not required.  There is also a possibility of coaching and/or other supplementals.  Please apply through the Educate Kansas Website.

JOB DESCRIPTION

·        Licensed Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:            

·        Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred

·        Valid Kansas teaching license with appropriate endorsement(s)

·        Effectively use Microsoft Office software

·        Ability to use Google Drive and Google Tools

·        Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

·        Ability to interpret data

·        Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a fast-paced environment

·        Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

 

REPORTS TO AND EVALUATED BY:  Building Principal

Responsible for creating an educational program that includes but is not limited to developing, planning and implementing curriculum, lesson plans and building an environment favorable to learning and personal growth. 

 

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Teaches assigned curriculum as adopted by USD 439.

·        Adaptable and can adjust to new conditions and shows flexibility in thinking with tasks, responsibilities and people.

·        Ability to build positive rapport and get along with students, staff members and families.

·        Demonstrates integrity, honesty and high ethical standards.

·        Shows initiative and innovation when dealing with work situations, problems and other opportunities.

·        Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized, differentiated and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

·        Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. 

·        Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.

·        Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. 

·        Maintains professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities; participates in curriculum development programs as required. 

·        Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.

·        Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques, technology and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitation of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 

·        Works well with others as part of a team to accomplish a goal or task.

·        Communicates with parents through various methods includes conferences, phone meetings and any other method needed in order to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.

·        Regular attendance is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand and talk or hear. Health insurance is available ($375 per month paid by the district towards the district plan). Other employee benefits are available. Paid sick and personal leave, Section 125 and 403(b) plans.

Salary Information

The base Salary is $46,070 with Steps and Columns according to education and experience.

Employer Information

Sedgwick Public Schools, USD 439, is a pre-kindergarten through the twelfth-grade state-accredited school system. The student population is nearly 500 annually. The school is housed on one campus with two school buildings, an elementary and a high school.  USD 439 is in the middle of construction that will connect the two buildings through the addition of a new media center, a new gymnasium, and multiple classroom and office spaces.   

The junior high and high school are members of the Heart of America League which supports and promotes academic and athletic programs for the ten-member school districts. Sedgwick is located in the southern part of Harvey County, just 15 minutes north of Wichita.  We are within a short drive of multiple attractions in the Wichita area.  Come be a part of a small-town district with big-city amenities within a short drive!
