Title:                                         Special Education Teacher, Elementary K-5

 

Qualifications:                         

               *Current Kansas Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Devin Center

               *Health certificate on file in Devin Center

               *3-5 years teaching experience preferred, but not required

 

Reports to:                               Building Principals, Assistant Director and Director of ESS

Supervises:                               Students Grades K-5

 

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

The Special Education teacher provides leads the creation and implementation of a specialized designed instructional program that increases opportunities for students receiving SPED services in the least restrictive environment.

               The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach.  The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds.  The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  The employee occasionally works extended hours.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support the philosophy and vision of exceptional services in the Geary County School District.
  2. Attend final general education student intervention team meetings to ensure that all documentation of the general education intervention process and response to invention documentation necessary to the evaluation process has been completed accurately.
  3. Monitor all referrals through the evaluation process, meet with evaluation team regularly.

4.      Review IEP and Evaluation files to ensure that they meet all regulatory and district standards, are written to reflect best practice, reflect high quality programming and are implemented with integrity.

5.      Submit all required documentation to the district office in a timely manner.

6.      Enter accurate data into the district student information system in a timely manner.

7.      Possess knowledge legal regulations governing our program.

8.      Utilize data to guide the focus of student IEPs and improve student achievement.

  1. Supervise, provide professional development, and coordinate the scheduling of paraprofessionals.
  2. Assist with the integration of exceptional students into the general education program.
  3. Keep informed regarding new technologies that facilitate and support student learning.
  4. Communicate clearly and accurately with administrators, staff, parents, students and agencies.
  5. Plan and implement transition services for students.
  6. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state, and federal laws.
  7. Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and re-evaluation process.
  8. Assist general education teachers in the development and implementation of universal design methods, curricular modifications, and appropriate classroom strategies.
  9. Provide demonstration of effective teaching practices within the classroom.
  10. Establish mentoring relationships among teachers to support inclusion activities.
  11. Intervene and provide support with discipline problems of exceptional students.
  12. Oversee the collection, analysis and interpretation of evaluative data regarding exceptional students in general education settings.

Term of Employment:               Teacher Contract

 

Salary Range:                           Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule. 

                                                  Additional days beyond the contract year will be compensated according to the negotiated agreement in effect

 

Evaluation Frequency:               Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state regulations and the terms established in the negotiated agreement
