Title: Special Education Instructional Facilitator 

 

Reports to: Building Principal

 

Position Summary:  ie. - The special education teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal- social- and intellectual development of students through rich learning experiences- case studies- and a variety of primary and secondary source documents. 

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Special Education Services
  2. Currently hold or be eligible for a Kansas certificate in at least one area of special education 
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of methods of effective instruction
  4. Desire and ability to work with students and staff
  5. A willingness to cooperate with and follow the directions of the school principal
  6. The ability and willingness to communicate with parents
  7. Ability to plan- organize- and see that activities are completed
  8. Proficient in data collection and reporting
  9. Excellent written and oral skills
  10. Proficient in Microsoft and Google applications     

Preferred:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
  2. Valid Teaching Certificate with applicable level area endorsements
  3. 5+ years of directly related verifiable experience in Special Education services

  7. Ability to monitor student achievement and teacher (self) effectiveness- and make
    changes to instruction techniques to improve student achievement
  8. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district
  9. Ability to work with technology/computer systems
  10. Ability to supervise- direct- motivate- and correct employee’s job performance
  11. Ability to model commitment and dedication to work
  12. Ability to work independently and without supervision- and complete work in an efficient manner

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly- productive environment for learning
  2. Communicates with parents and counselors on a student`s progress
  3. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
  4. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities
  5. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district- and in self-selected professional growth activities related to special education services
  6. Ensures that all activities conform to district guidelines
  7. Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community
  8. Works effectively with community organizations
  9. Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned
  10. Supports the value of education
  11. Supports the mission and vision of USD #458
  12. Keeps abreast of new information- best practices- innovative ideas- and techniques
  13. Adheres to all district health and safety policies- including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  14. Other duties as assigned by the Principal- Director of Special Education or other Administrative Staff



Physical Requirements:  Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.

 

  1.     Must have physical stamina to maintain job responsibilities
    2. Requires occasional stooping- bending- kneeling- reaching- and turning

Term of Employment: 10 months (187 Days); Academic school year as assigned

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. We currently have 8 district attendance centers. Our Early Learning Center for Childcare and Pre-K opened for the 2020-21 school year in August. K-5 buildings are located in Bonner Springs, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. A new K-5 building, located in Basehor, opened in the Fall 2021. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12. 

 

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide instructed by Basehor-Linwood teachers.

 

Special Education services are provided by the Tonganoxie/Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative located in Basehor.
