Specialty Classroom for Students that have a Behavioral/Social Emotional Learning Disabilities

 

Title: Special Education - BSEL Special Education Teacher Classification: Licensed

Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Services

Work Year: 186 Days/Year 

Salary:  Based off experience and college credit/hours in the Salary Schedule plus and additional 7% of the base stipend for special education.

 

This is a great team with great support from Director- SpEd Instructional Coach- and District Behavior Specialist. Low Caseload.

 

Job Purpose Statement/s: The Special Education Teacher for the Elementary BSEL Special Education Program for students with BSEL disabilities promotes and develops successful learning for students who are eligible for IDEA services- manages an assigned caseload- maintains regular communication with those students- their parents- and appropriate staff members and is responsible for development- revision and implementation of IEPs. The Behavior Classroom Teacher effectively supports the education of students who exhibit behavioral disorders and are identified with an emotional disturbance disability. 

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree (Masters Preferred) in Special Education- 
  • A valid Kansas Teaching License 
  • Experience and expertise in student behavior management and collaborative problem solving; 
  • Ability to provide leadership to staff in areas of specialization; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to consult and collaborate effectively with

teachers- related service providers- psychologist- behavior specialists- 

special education instructional coach- administrators- parents- and outside agencies in a variety of settings;

  • Very good command of oral and written English language and ability to

present effectively to groups; 

  • Ability to write valid IEP’s and to follow IDEA procedures; 
  • Physical ability to train and/or assist staff in physical management of

students in crisis; 

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students- parents- and

school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds; 

  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students- staff- or district patrons; 
  • The ability to work harmoniously with others; 
  • Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods- state curriculum framework- education and special education law and appropriate instructional subjects.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Implement Behavioral and Functional Assessments for students; 
  • Assist and support building and district staff and parents in the development- implementation and revision of student behavior intervention plans; 
  • Facilitate team processes including problem solving- and IEP development for students with special needs; 
  • Provide support to staff in all areas related to emotional disturbance and behavioral disorders and interventions; 
  • Use approved methodology to provide for the health and safety of students; 
  • Instruct and direct assigned paraprofessionals to maximize delivery of instructional services;
  • Collects appropriate student performance and progress monitoring data for determining the extent to which student IEP goals and objectives are achieved; 
  • Teacher will seek out opportunities for professional development to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skill.
