The district has approximately 825 students and 120 employees.  Typical class sizes are under 25 students.  Halstead-Bentley USD 440 has worked hard to keep up with the changes in technology to provide 21st century skills to students.

The district is comprised of a primary school in Bentley for grades K-3, a middle school in Halstead for preschool and grades 4-8, and a high school in Halstead for grades 9-12.  USD 440 schools provide unparalleled opportunities for individual identity, school involvement, and growth.  Strong parent and community support counts as a major strength for success.

Halstead High School`s ACT composite scores are consistently high compared to the State and National scores.  USD 440 has been recognized as high performing schools with an environment conducive to safe learning.

With a vision to work together through teaming, collaboration, communication, and shared decision-making, staff turnover remains low.  The district lives its core values of respect, integrity, commitment, and optimism in pursuit of its mission.  Every aspect of the district`s operation is aligned with the district`s mission to "engage in continuous improvement to develop successful learners."  We believe that this mission applies to both students and staff.

Halstead and Bentley provide great access to larger communities while having a small town appeal. With Newton less than 12 miles east and Hutchinson and Wichita both around 25 minutes west and south respectively, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

The school board and community are highly involved with the success of our local schools. USD 440 sponsors a teacher recognition program for outstanding staff and educators as well as several district celebrations for educational success.

Halstead-Bentley schools and communities strive to remain progressive and nuture the support in both communities for our schools.
