If you are looking for an exciting career in a progressive school district, then Baxter Springs is the place to be!!
Baxter Springs, a city full of history, with a population of approximately 5,000, is located in extreme southeast Kansas, at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Within minutes, you can drive to Joplin, MO, which is a regional business center for the 4-State region of KS, OK, MO & AR. Baxter Springs is centrally located with Tulsa, OK 90 minutes to the south, Kansas City 2 hours to the north, Branson, MO 2 hours to the east and Wichita 2 hours to the west.
The entire business district of Baxter Springs is located on HISTORIC ROUTE 66, which is our "main" street. Come and experience the "mother road", walk where Civil War battles were fought, visit our National Cemetery, designated by President Abraham Lincoln, and experience our rich mining and cow town heritage.
Baxter Springs offers many recreational opportunities with fishing on Spring River, upland game hunting, Grand Lake O'the Cherokees, golfing, bowling, baseball, softball, soccer, hiking and many other opportunities.
Come and experience Baxter Springs -- big enough to be progressive, but small enough to offer quality of life!!
UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT # 508
USD#508 is a progressive school district of approximately 1000 students and 75 faculty. Our facilities include departmentalized buildings with PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. We have completed building a new Middle School for 7-8 grade and additions to our K-2 and 3-6 buildings. All buildings have FEMA approved storm shelters. We will be moving into these new facilities 2nd semester of the 2013-14 school year.
Technology is a vital tool in the learning process and we are proud that Baxter Springs is very progressive in the use of technology at all grade levels. Academics is the primary focus of USD#508, and USD#508 has consistently been awarded both STATE and NATIONAL recognition, and continues to excel.
All of our buildings achieve AYP.
Extra-curricular activities also play an important role in a student's education, and USD#508 students continue to receive not only conference, but State titles as well.
