Phone: 620-879-9200 The Caney Valley Unified School District #436 provides buildings for approximately 800 students: Caney Valley Jr/Sr High School (7-12) and Lincoln Memorial Elementary School (Pre-K-6th). Recently added is the Caney Valley Virtual Academy which is available for on-line education. The Caney Valley School District offers a wide range of courses and is fully accredited through the State of Kansas. Many of our CVHS graduates continue their education at the two local Montgomery County community colleges, both within 20 miles of Caney. Our district goals are to: (1) Increase student achievement in local, state, and national testing with the goal of meeting AYP (2) Increase educational opportunities for all students through technology and innovative strategies (3) Promote academic excellence (4) Improve programs and develop strategies to encourage all students to stay in school (5) To develop a 7 year strategic plan Caney is a proud Southeast Kansas community with a rich heritage. Our community (population 2,200) is located in a valley surrounded by the Chautauqua Hills on the west, Oklahoma Lakes (Copan and Hulah) on the south, and prairie grassland to the north and east. The community supports 16 churches, with most faiths represented, and several civil organizations. We are rich in cultural history and have a strong historical society organization. Our historical museum is filled with history and genealogy for those that are researching their ancestors. Industry is growing. One of our major industries is Spears Manufacturing Company which has added many new job to the area as they maintain their large production company as well as a new warehouse facility. KOPCO (Kansas Offset Printing Company) is another large local employer. Caney welcomes new growth to the community. Within a one hundred mile radius of Caney are many attractions which, to a name a few, include: Safari Zoological Park (home of the rare white tiger, born here in Caney),Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, Woolaroc (a tribute to Frank Phillips and the early West), West Winds Buffalo Ranch, Ralph Mitchell Zoo, Little House on the Prairie, several lakes for camping, fishing and boating and lots of wild life hunting. |
